Water beads

Before home time yesterday we had a look at some tiny balls. They were called water beads. Water beads grow when left in water overnight. The children didn't know this and during the experiment they were guessing what might happen to them. They said they would freeze, turn to ice or explode!

So this morning when the children came in there was shock in the air, they were so surprised to see the beads had got a lot bigger! We passed them round in a circle and the children all had a feel of them, before we left the beads out in continuous provision. There was lots of discussion about what the beads felt like, looked like and the difference from yesterday.
